GBY Fest is a free 2-day, virtual event that creates intentional and alternative spaces for the advancement of Black perspectives, scholarship, positions, and conditions on a global scale. The event will convene over 1,000 innovators, disruptors, and entrepreneurs from around the world.

Countless academic studies show that diverse management teams outperform their homogenous counterparts. Yet, minorities and women only make up a fraction of senior leadership in the Fortune 500 and the investment management community.

Join us for an engaging session about responding to conflict in the workplace. During this one-hour session, participants will begin to understand how social identities, such as race gender, sexual orientation, and religion, might influence how we experience and respond to conflict. You will hear different perspectives from campus experts who will offer tips on reworking language, behavior, and relationships in the workplace.

This colloquium from the ARHU Dean’s Colloquium Series on Race, Equity and Justice features Richard Bell, professor of History, who will discuss African American political culture and his book: “Stolen: Five Free Boys Kidnapped Into Slavery and Their Astonishing Odyssey Home.”

(Re)Born This Way is a Christian small group for LGBTQ+ students to:

• Celebrate and explore how faith and queerness inform each other
• Discuss intersecting (and sometimes conflicting) identities
• Address issues faced by Christian LGBTQ+ students at UMD
• Create space for healing

I Am Here: A Virtual Celebration of Our Collective Resilience, Perseverance, and Fortitude

In partnership with the Embassy of South Africa, Washington, DC, join us on Saturday, December 5, 2020, for I Am, We Are’s 5th Annual Benefit Reception and Art Auction. This year we will virtually come together in the spirit of gratitude and appreciation to celebrate all that we have overcome.  

In order to help our faculty and staff stay mentally well and respond to the mental health needs of our students, the Counseling Center will be offering workshops exclusively for UMD faculty and staff throughout the fall semester.

This workshop will address common student mental health concerns, ways to communicate about mental health with students, available mental health resources (including the Counseling Center) and how to refer to them, and methods of coping for everyone involved.
