Smith School Dean Howard Frank, Dingman Center Entrepreneur-in-Residence Tien Wong and Smith School Fellow Wei-Wu He were among the business leaders providing insight into doing business in China and India at a Northern Virginia breakfast forum on February 28, 2007. Dean Frank moderated an expert panel that included Wong, Wei-Wu He and three others at Surviving & Thriving in the Flat World: China, India, and You! The event, presented by Potomac Executive Biz and co-sponsored by the Smith School, drew more than 150 area business people.

Participants in Smiths the Smith-GSBA Global Executive MBA Program recently had an opportunity to bring classroom lessons on global business and cross cultural management to life with a module in Beijing, China, December 11-22, 2006. The business managers from Europe were in Beijing to participate in a living case study presented by Otis Elevator executives. For the majority, it was their first trip to China.

Opening Reception Welcomes Participants to Smith's Second Executive MBA Cohort in Shanghai
Approximately 60 attendees including Smith alumni, U.S. government officials, senior corporate executives, as well as current and new participants in the Smith Schools Shanghai EMBA cohorts 1 & 2 were on hand for an official opening reception to welcome the newest members of the Smith Schools community on December 7, 2006 in Shanghai. The reception celebrated the start of the second Shanghai Executive MBA cohort since the programs debut in November 2006, and the successful progression of the Smith Schools custom and executive education offerings in China.

Smith Opens New Office & Classroom Space in Shanghai
The Smith School has opened new offices, along with a state-of-the-art classroom in Shanghai, China, where the school launched its Executive MBA program in fall 2005. The school joined the Maryland Center China (MCC), its representative in China, in acelebration marking the opening of the new space on June 29, 2006. Maryland Secretary of State Mary Kane, who was leading a delegation of state government and higher education leaders in China, was on hand to mark the opening of the new office.

University of Marylands Business School Announces Executive MBA Scholarships for Entrepreneurs, Non-profit and Government Executives
College Park, Md. May 4, 2006 The University of Marylands Robert H. Smith School of Business announced today that for the second year it will offer Executive MBA (EMBA) tuition scholarships. The partial-tuition scholarships are being provided to help executives from underrepresented industry areas including the government and non-profit sectors attain their career and leadership goals. The school will accept scholarship applications beginning May 15, 2006. Up to six scholarships will be awarded to students starting the schools EMBA program in November 2006.
