Smith's 2008 Venture Capital Investment Competition

Every year the MBA Entrepreneurship Club hosts a local round of the Venture Capital Investment Competition (VCIC), whose winner then moves on to a regional competition. This year the local round took place on Feb. 8, 2008 and featured three local startups that are currently in the process of looking for funding—Prepchamps, Inspire and mpowerplayers.

Smith Team Heads to International Round of Venture Capital Investment Competition

A team of third-year part-time MBA students won second place and received a check for $2000 in the Southeast Regional Venture Capital Investment Competition (VCIC). Moshe Cohen, Nat Forgotson, Shad Imam, Skye Manders, and Tom Whelan represented the Smith School of Business at the competition held at Georgia Tech in Atlanta the weekend of March 9, 2007. Their second-place win guarantees the team a spot at the International Finals, which will be held at the Kenan-Flagler Business School at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in April.

Smith Team Wins the Entrepreneurs Choice Award at the Venture Capital Investment Competition (VCIC) Regionals

Capital Access Ventures, comprised of first-year Smith MBAs Mark Slusser, Anne Engebretsen, Avi Lerner, Susannah Campbell, and Karl Olson, won the Entrepreneur's Choice Award at the Venture Capital Investment Competition (VCIC) Regionals on March 2-4, 2006 in Atlanta. Earlier, the team was selected to represent the Smith School after winning an internal competition held on February 24. The internal round was sponsored by the Dingman Center of Entrepreneurship, Office of Career Management and venture capital firm Opus 8.
