The Maryland Bankers Association and the University of Maryland’s Smith School launched a statewide Smith Banking Fellows Program, combining coursework, paid internships and industry-led development to prepare high-achieving undergraduates for banking careers, strengthening Maryland’s talent pipeline beginning in summer 2026.

Eight distinguished Smith School alumni shared diverse finance career paths with students during an April 4 panel and breakout sessions. The event offered real-world insights into finance roles, emphasizing flexibility, collaboration, and skills needed for long-term success.

Rising interest rates now threaten community banks, highlighting the need for robust management. University of Maryland students investigated these issues in a national case competition with local banks.
