Kimberly Rice DeGross from UMD’s Smith School of Business spoke to Wheaton High School students about resumes, career preparation, and college pathways. She emphasized professionalism, networking, and community connection while inspiring students to pursue internships and future education or job opportunities.

The Smith School hosted Nigeria’s acting ambassador, Samson Itegboje, to strengthen partnerships benefiting students. Leaders discussed collaboration in AI, healthcare, and business. Nigerian students’ contributions were celebrated, and the visit highlighted opportunities for cultural exchange, research, internships, and global cooperation between institutions.

The Robert H. Smith School of Business, in partnership with Enterprise Mobility Foundation, has launched a new co-curricular initiative aimed at helping students dress for success—literally. The Enterprise Mobility Foundation Career Boutique and Wellness Room, located in Van Munching Hall, is a donation-based resource that provides free professional attire to Smith School and BSE (Business, Society and Entrepreneurship) Scholars preparing for interviews, job fairs, and new career opportunities.

More than 37,000 learners worldwide have joined the Smith School’s free AI and Career Empowerment course—designed for transitioning federal workers but open to all—building AI literacy and career skills through expert-led, self-paced modules.

With federal job cuts forcing career pivots, Smith experts advise reflection, flexibility and AI tools to aid the search. A free Smith course helps workers adapt, emphasizing authentic storytelling and outcome-based résumés for success in a changing job market.

Startup Bazaar, held April 12 at the Smith School, showcased the state’s tech ecosystem and featured leaders including Lt. Gov. Aruna Miller. The event highlighted Smith’s role in innovation, entrepreneurship and AI, and drew strong participation from startups and state officials.

Kim Rice DeGross, University of Maryland alumna, has been appointed Assistant Dean of the Office of Career Services at the Robert H. Smith School of Business. She will focus on expanding employer partnerships to enhance career opportunities for Smith students.
