Smith Interns Globally This Summer

Eighteen Smith School undergraduates gained international business experience through the Center for Global Business' Global Summer Internship Program. Students earned six academic credits while working abroad, applying classroom knowledge to business challenges and developing intercultural teamwork and cross-cultural communication skills.

From Sydney to Singapore, Paris to Prague, Smith School students took their careers global this summer. Through the Center for Global Business’ Global Summer Internship Program, 18 undergraduate students spent the summer gaining hands-on business experience, exploring new cultures and putting their classroom knowledge to work around the world.

Students earned six academic credits while interning with organizations in fields including e-commerce, health care, supply chain and risk management, and real estate. Their placements included Blue Moon Marketing, Brilliance Capital, Bank of Singapore, Provencelia, Taste of Prague, Kaassow Robots, XIOR and others.

The program went beyond simply working abroad. Students analyzed real business challenges facing their host organizations and applied concepts and frameworks from their business coursework to develop solutions. Working in multinational environments, they also strengthened their global mindset, intercultural teamwork and cross-cultural communication skills.

Students were based in Sydney, Singapore, Auckland, Dublin, Paris, Madrid, Prague and Buenos Aires, developing professional skills while navigating new cultures, markets and business environments.

For students interested in building an international career, the program offers an opportunity to experience global work firsthand while still undergraduates. Marketing junior Elena Emde, who interned with Taste of Prague, said, “I chose this program as someone who is interested in working abroad following graduation; this program was the perfect way for me to experience global work life as an undergrad. Also, I am passionate about the hospitality industry, and working at Taste of Prague has shown me the behind-the-scenes operations of international tourism.”
