QUEST Student Receives Scholarship from GEICO

Kevin Setzer, a junior at the Smith School, was presented with this year's GEICO Achievement Award on Monday, September 26, in a surprise ceremony by none other than the GEICO Gecko! Each year GEICO selects a student leader at the University of Maryland to receive a scholarship for $1,000 in a college recruiting program that has been rewarding students for about 20 years. GEICO also provided students in the class with pizza, soda and some giveaways.

"Kevin was selected for his outstanding academic excellence and leadership and involvement on campus and in the community," said Shannon Smedstad, college relations manager at GEICO.

GeicoSetzer is one of 14 student mentors in the Smith School's QUEST program. QUEST is a joint program between the Smith School and the A. James Clark School of Engineering that gives talented undergraduates a chance to work in a team-based environment focused on quality management issues.

The Smith School offers congratulations to Kevin!
