About 100 Smith undergraduate students representing Smith's four professional business fraternities presented financial literacy-based solutions to related community issues to judges from competition partner SECU Credit Union, as part of an inaugural Inter-fraternity Pledging Case Competition produced by the Center for Social Value Creation at the University of Maryland’s Robert H. Smith School of Business.
An additional 100 Smith students attended the competition on April 5, 2024, in Van Munching Hall. According to the CSVC Director, Nima Farshchi, it was a “resounding success” with participants demonstrating “creative and engaging solutions to community issues” through “an excellent [Smith student] showcase of experiential learning and social impact to address the grand challenges of our time.”
The winning team of Smith students represented Phi Chi Theta, Alpha Mu Chapter: Ostap Voloshyn, Lauren Simms, Zainab Raza, Denis Kalinin, and Helaina Davis.
Competing students also represented: Alpha Kappa Psi-Omega Theta Chapter, Delta Sigma Pi-Gamma Sigma Chapter, and Pi Sigma Epsilon-Eta Gamma Chapter.
CSVC also recognized “[CSVC] team members, Keola Evans and Eileen Chen for their efforts in bringing this event to life” and [SECU’s] Annie Weinschenk and our 10 judges of SECU executives for their invaluable guidance throughout the competition: Holly Reustle, Yan Feng, MBA, Alexandra Dekowski, Quill Hamilton, Rose Whitney, Cyrenity Reynolds, Adam Stull, Amy Basta, Drew McKone, and Nicole Antar.”
