Congratulations, Smith School Graduates!

On Sunday, Dec. 22, 2013, 180 undergraduates, 450 MBA and MS students, and three PhDs graduated from the University of Maryland's Robert H. Smith School of Business.

Dean Alex Triantis was the master of ceremonies for the event, which took place in Cole Field House. Surrounded by the soon-to-be alumni, faculty, staff, family members and friends, Dean Triantis congratulated the graduates and offered them this advice: “When something disrupts your plans, your career, your personal life -- focus on the opportunity. Embrace the disruption instead of resenting it or lamenting it.

“Don’t miss the opportunity that comes from disruption. Take all those critical thinking skills and problem-solving skills you acquired at Smith, and use them to make something good – for you, for your organization, for the world.”

Alaina Rothstein ’13 was the undergraduate speaker. Graduate student Andy Cooney, MBA ’13, was scheduled to speak but was ill and unable to attend.

Rothstein majored in supply chain management and operations management. She interned at Amazon.com in the summer of 2013 and served as president of the Supply Chain Management Society at Smith. Upon graduation, she will join Nestlé as a sourcing specialist.

Cooney graduated with an MBA and Master of Finance dual-degree. From Rockville, Md., Cooney is a lifelong Terps fan. He received his bachelor’s degree from Rochester Institute of Technology. He works at Logistics Management Institute in McLean, Va.

Congratulations to our new alumni. As Dean Triantis said at commencement, “Create the best possible world. We’re counting on you.”
