Lori D. Petterson joined the Department of Finance in 2012 after working for almost three decades for the Commonwealth of Virginia. She worked for eighteen years at George Mason University where she was a senior fiscal technician, writer, and department manager.

Petterson has a bachelor's degree from the University of Virginia in music and theater, a bachelor's degree in theatrical writing in special education from George Mason University, and a master's degree in arts management, also from GMU. She is a published author, performer, and former small business owner who lives in College Park with her husband and two sons.
