Leonard Yang Liu is a Ph.D. candidate in accounting at the Robert H. Smith School of Business, University of Maryland. He studies how new technologies (e.g., Generative AI) are changing the way financial information is produced and used in capital markets, and he is also interested in financial intermediaries and behavioral finance. His research has been recognized as the best paper in Fintech at the 2024 SFA Annual Meeting, and he has received multiple awards, such as the Frank T. Paine Award for Academic Achievement and the Long Jiang Graduate Student Fellowship. He will be on the 2026–2027 academic job market. 

He holds an M.S. in Enterprise Management from Peking University and a B.S. in Accounting from Huazhong University of Science and Technology. Before his doctoral studies, Leonard worked as an investment manager in Beijing, China.

Research interests – Emerging Technology in Accounting, Financial Intermediaries, Capital Markets, Financial Information Processing, Behavioral Finance.
