Jillian Chavis
Assistant Clinical Professor
Jillian Chavis is an Assistant Clinical Professor in the AIA department. Prior to joining the Smith School faculty, Jillian worked in the National Tax Department at Ernst & Young, LLP, for over ten years specializing in federal tax methods of accounting, including income recognition, capitalization and cost recovery, and inventory considerations. Jillian provided tax and accounting advice to companies across industries including advanced technology, oil & gas, real estate, and consumer products & retail.
Jillian is an associate member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) Tax Methods and Periods Technical Resource Panel, and has supported multiple working groups in drafting and reviewing comment letters in response to legislation, Treasury regulations, and sub-regulatory guidance. She is a member of the American Bar Association (ABA) Tax Section, and has served as a panelist and moderator for ABA panels. Jillian contributed to the update for BNA Portfolio 578-54th T.M., Inventories: General Principles; LIFO Method, to address recent technical developments and to improve clarity of complex technical concepts.
Jillian is an alumnus of the Smith School where she majored in Accounting. She has a J.D. from the University of Maryland where she focused on Business Law and an LL.M. from Georgetown University where she focused on Taxation. Jillian is an active CPA in Maryland and D.C. and is an active member of the Maryland Bar.
