Bobvita Salters-Jones is the strategic director of human resources and payroll at Maryland Smith at the University of Maryland. Bobvita joined the Smith School in 2007 and is responsible for maintaining a vibrant organizational culture that enhances the mission of the Smith School while providing a stimulating and supportive work environment.

Over the past decade, the number of employees at the Smith School has increased significantly and her team has expanded to meet the growing needs of the business school, which is one of the largest schools at UMD. Bobvita is especially proud of two programs that she helped develop at Smith: the “Staff Recognition Awards,” which rewards and recognizes employees for distinguished service each year and the “UMD-Smith Leadership Academy,” a cutting-edge leadership development program for UMD staff.

Bobvita works with her team to improve productivity and support an effective workplace environment while ensuring that employee relations, training, organizational development, employment and recruitment, performance management, J1 and H1-B and Permanent Residency procedures, compensation, and complex organizational issues are carried out and are consistent with the overall strategic mission and plan of the school and the university. Bobvita is an equity officer and has a dotted line reporting responsibility to the vice president of University Human Resources.

Prior to joining the Smith School, Bobvita was a compensation/classification analyst across campus at University Human Resources. Prior to coming to the University of Maryland, she served as a compensation analyst at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine where she was instrumental in implementing a new pay program. She received her bachelor’s degree in communication studies from Morgan State University and has several professional certifications in the field of human resources.

Bobvita resides in Woodstock, Md., and is passionate about her family, career, and sorority - Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated.  She enjoys traveling to new places when she can fit it into her busy schedule.
