Empowering the Smith School community, the Philanthropy and Alumni Membership Committee, a pivotal part of the Smith Alumni Board (SAB), harnesses alumni talent and resources to drive fundraising campaigns and outreach initiatives. The committee focuses on bolstering the Dean’s Strategic Initiative Fund, ensuring immediate impacts like technological advancements and student support.

The Smith School and Campus Partners Help to Make Career Week 2024 a Success

In its fourth year, Career Week 2024 boasted 2,600 registrants and 1,300 attendees. With 25 diverse in-person and virtual sessions, alumni engaged in professional development and networking opportunities. Organized by the Alumni Association, this collaboration featured 11 strategic partners, including the Smith School’s Office of Alumni Relations.

Earning a Smith degree spans generations in individual families. Alumni share stories with younger family members about their experiences at the school and subsequently, those relatives often end up attending Smith themselves.

An Ambassador for UMD’s Performing Arts, Israel Studies

Joseph B. Gildenhorn ’51, a lawyer, real estate developer and former U.S. ambassador to Switzerland who generously supported the performing arts at the University of Maryland and established its Joseph and Alma Gildenhorn Institute for Israel Studies, died on Saturday. He was 94 years old.

During an early job interview with Accenture, Pallavi Agarwal ’05, asked how long it would take to become a partner. Never afraid to ask bold questions, Agarwal used her determination to map her successful business career. Today, she is the CEO and founder of Kander, an award-winning woman- and minority-founded Salesforce global consulting firm based in Washington, D.C.
