Support Dress for Success — Smith Women Groups Sponsor Business Clothes Drive

The University of Maryland's Smith Association of Women MBAs (SAWMBA) and the undergraduate Smith School Women’s Society are sponsoring a "Dress for Success" women's business clothes drive, April 22-23, 2009 (9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Pownall Grand Atrium of Van Munching Hall). Dress for Success is a not-for-profit organization that empowers women back into the workforce. Gentlemen are encouraged to participate by asking for clothing donations from their female significant others, relatives and friends.

Tables will be set up in Van Munching Hall to receive the donations of lightly used women's business attire and to submit your contact information (in order to send you a signed tax donation form from Dress for Success). Thank you in advance and please know that you can directly impact the life of a woman who is seeking employment.

Below is a list of donation items that Dress for Success seeks:

  • Women’s business suits (especially 0-2 and 14+)
  • Women’s separates to include: slacks, blouses, skirts (all professional in nature)
  • Women’s professional shoes (in all sizes and in good condition)
  • Professional Handbags (in good condition)
  • Panty hose in their original packaging
  • Professional-style jewelry
  • Accessories: dress scarves, belts, etc.
  • Unused and in original packaging makeup

The Dress for Success Washington, D.C., Affiliate opened its doors in 2002 to the women in the community by providing free professional clothing in support of community job placement programs for those seeking to leave welfare for the rewards of not just employment but a profession and a better future.
