The Smith School recognizes that in today’s global business world, international
acumen is essential to success. All students are encouraged to pursue some form
of international experience during their time at Smith. The Office of Global Programs
offers opportunities designed to educate students on global business, promote cross-cultural
understanding, and change the way they experience the world forever. By participating
in one of our programs, students will learn what it takes to do business in a different
political, economic, historical and cultural landscape.
The Smith School offers semester abroad programs for those able to fit a four-month
long immersion into their degree plan, and short-term study abroad options for those
with more demanding schedules. Our students have the freedom to choose where they
want to go; they can develop their particular expertise and advance an exciting
career.
Short-term options cover a wide variety of destinations and topics. Examples
include energy policy and the use of solar and nuclear energy sources in Europe,
sports marketing and the World Cup in South Africa, and the business aspects of
public health, with Costa Rica as the case study. Semester options range from dedicated
Smith partners to any AACSB and/or Equis accredited institution in the world.
The Office of Global Programs is grateful to the Center for
International Business Education and Research (CIBER) for its generous
support. CIBER at the Robert H. Smith School of Business is designed to be a
national resource center for teaching, research and outreach in international
business and related fields. The overarching purpose of the CIBER Program is to
enhance the international competitiveness of American business. Funding for
CIBER is provided by the Department of Education under provisions of a Title VI
grant.
