“You never know what you don't know because I never knew such an industry existed,” said Byron Cordon, a finance and mathematics double major after attending a presentation last week focusing on the equipment leasing and finance industry. The event was held on Feb. 13, 2018, and is one of many co-curricular offerings hosted by the University of Maryland's Robert H. Smith School of Business Finance Fellows program, which is designed to expand learning outside of the classroom.
Susan White is a Clinical Professor at the University of Maryland, College Park, teaching corporate finance for undergraduates and MBAs. She received my undergraduate degree from Brown University, MBA from Binghamton University and PhD in finance from the University of Texas, Austin. Her primary area of research is case studies, with cases and articles published in the Business Case Journal, CASE Journal, Case Research Journal, Journal of Financial Education, Journal of Financial Research, International Journal of Financial Education, a restructuring case book and personal finance collection.

In spring 2017, dozens of Finance Fellows tackled a case entitled “INFINITI HR – Target or Acquirer?” for their annual Emerging CFOs Case Competition held at the University of Maryland's Robert H. Smith School of Business. A couple of weeks ago, the authors of the case, Karen Hallows and Susan White, who both teach in the finance department, presented the same case at an international conference and were awarded the prestigious Jonathan Welch Award for the best finance, accounting or economics case.

Speed dating took on a new meaning for undergraduates studying finance at the University of Maryland’s Robert H. Smith School of Business last week. For several hours on Oct. 26, 2016, more than 130 students mixed and mingled with almost 40 professional mentors from the field of finance at the annual Finance Fellows Networking Night. Several of the mentors were Smith alumni who returned to College Park representing firms such as Capital One, Northwestern Mutual, Deloitte, Harborside Group, and SECU, to name just a few.
