College Media Group Wins Dingman Center's Cupid's Cup Business Plan Competition Watch the new Smith Business Close-Up Video!

College Park, Md. - April 20, 2009 – College Media Group, a media company targeted at college students, took home $17,500 as the top winner and People’s Choice at the Cupid’s Cup business competition, held April 17 by the Dingman Center for Entrepreneurship at the University of Maryland’s Robert H. Smith School of Business. The competition highlights the center’s success starting and growing firms “from the back of the napkin to the first million dollars in financing” and is sponsored by Kevin Plank, CEO and chairman of sports apparel maker Under Armour.

Student entrepreneurship highlighted at BB&T Invitational and Cupid’s Cup

Yellow Dingman Dollars filled the cups and bins on eager entrepreneurs’ tables at the 4th Annual BB&T Invitational on April 1. Resembling the brightly colored currency used in Monopoly, each yellow piece of paper counted as a vote for an attendee’s favorite start-up to be tallied up and awarded at the 6th Annual Cupid’s Cup competition later that afternoon.

Finalists Named for University of Maryland Cupid’s Cup Business Competition Five Businesses to Face Off in April 1 Final Event

Smith School of Business today announced the five finalists for this year’s Cupid’s Cup business competition. The sixth annual competition will be held April 1 at the university’s Adele H. An adventure race that has zombies chasing participants to the finish line might not be everyone’s idea of a good time. But the business certainly has legs -- race organizers Reed Street Productions took home $17,500 as the top winner at the seventh annual Cupid’s Cup business competition, hosted by the Dingman Center for Entrepreneurship at the Robert H. Smith School of Business on March 30, at the University of Maryland.

The Cupid’s Cup business competition this year expanded beyond the university to award cash prizes to the most promising entrepreneurs in the country. But the April 5 competition, sponsored by Under Armour founder and CEO Kevin Plank ’96 and hosted by Smith’s Dingman Center for Entrepreneurship, found its top winner close to home.
