Join fellow Smith Terps for two rounds of our virtual stay-at-home Scavenger Hunt! As we have all primarily stayed at home for the past seven months, we’re sure you have some unique items around you. So, we invite you to sift through those items and join us for both rounds (or just one round). Questions will be posted at the designated time on the Smith Alumni Facebook and Instagram accounts. One winner will be selected for each round, so tune in, grab your items, and post your photo for a chance to win.
Rules: Collect your items and post one photo of the 10 items (or as many as you can find) for each round. Your photo must be posted in the time allotted for each round. Each correct item that is included in your photo will count as an entry into the prize drawing. No duplicate photos. Winners for each round will be drawn at random after each round has ended.
Submit via Facebook – Comment on the Smith Alumni post (with the instructions) with your photo of the items you found, or tag us at @umdsmithalumni
Submit via Instagram - Post your photo of the items found and tag @smithalumni either to your account or to your story.
Round One: 1–3:30 p.m.
Round Two: 5:30–7:30 p.m.
Perhaps the most significant way to understand someone’s life and work is to find out more about their purpose. The Purpose Project is designed to foster community and conversation and create a space for deeper and shared understanding of diversity. The Smith Day Purpose Project will guide attendees along a path to define their individual purpose. Through paired one-on-one discussions, attendees will be able to develop a working definition of their purpose. View a short video for more information about the activity. Co-Sponsored by the Maryland Smith Diversity and Inclusion Committee. (Registration Required)
Having a long day? Push through the last hours of your work day with a quick afternoon stretch with Testudo followed by a performance from the Maryland Dance Team.
I scream, you scream, we all scream for Maryland Dairy Ice Cream! Log out of work and take a few minutes to learn how to make one of the Dairy’s popular ice cream flavors. Executive Chef Jeffery Russo, FMP, and Executive Pastry Chef Miaolan LI will show you how to make a Terp favorite -- Let's Tour S'more. The demo will be followed by a brief tour of their facilities.
Celebrate Smith Day by hearing from alumni in select industries about their varying career paths during this networking event for students. By attending this event, students will hear examples of the different career options available to them within a chosen industry. Students should select the industry of most interest during the registration process. Co-sponsored by Maryland Smith’s Center for Global Business and the QUEST Honors Program. (Registration Required)
Close out Smith Day with an interactive virtual game of Family Feud. Grab a few of your fellow Smith Terps (friends, classmates, or colleagues) and form a team for an evening of fun. Note: Each member of your team will need to register. Don’t have a team? No problem, you can register as a solo to be randomly paired on a team.
If you just want to be a part of the audience to cheer on your fellow Smith Terps, you can do that too but you will still need to register. (Registration Required)
Ever wonder what it would look like if Testudo could join you in your personal celebration of Smith Day? We do too, so here’s your chance! Download the “What’s Testudo Doing Today?” image, take pictures with Testudo throughout Smith Day and share it in this Where’s Waldo-styled activity. Whether he joins your Zoom meeting, goes to virtual class with you or your kids, or joins you in a Smith Day activity, we want to see how you and Testudo celebrate the day.
Help create a Smith Day work of art by uploading and/or submitting your photos with fellow Smith Terps or photos of your favorite Maryland Smith moments, activities, or events.
Share individual photos, photos with fellow Smith Terps, or photos of your favorite Maryland Smith moments, activities, or events. Photos should be in a JPG or PNG format and be less than 10MB in size. Any modern smartphone photo should work just fine.
Photos can also be submitted by posting on Twitter with the hashtag #UMDSmithProud. The deadline for photo submissions is Sunday, November 15.
