The biggest piece of advice that I would give to future Smith students would be to get involved early. What is your best memory from your time at Smith?
My favorite Smith memory was during finals week last semester. I was serving on the Smith Undergraduate Student Association (SUSA) Executive Board and I was having a meeting with the president. Everyone was hard at work studying and doing work in the Smith hallways, but there was a club selling Krispy Kreme donuts. The SUSA President looked at me and said "we are about to have some fun." He bought dozens of donuts and together we went around Smith handing out donuts, trying to brighten people's days even a little during finals week. That feeling of helping others and putting smiles on others' faces will always stay with me.

What is your best memory from your time at Smith?
Smith gave me the opportunity to go to Australia and New Zealand during winter abroad of my freshman year. I was extremely nervous as I did not know anyone on the trip except for one person going in. While I was afraid to be put together with a group of 40 strangers for two weeks, it ended up being one of the best experiences of my life. Not only was it exciting and adventurous, but it was invigorating and inspiring. Being able to take away so many new insights from one short trip, I feel, is something only Smith can do.

What is your best memory from your time at Smith?
It's odd for a student to say their favorite memory took place in a classroom but mine did. It was the first day of my business statistics class, and I was dreading what was to come. All of a sudden, the professor bursts into the lecture hall with an unequivocal amount of energy and enthusiasm that stayed throughout the entire semester. I, and many other students, were dumbstruck that 1) this was our professor and 2) that someone could be this excited about statistics. He turned a subject that I found intolerable into a class that I came to enjoy. Only Smith can pull that off.

What advice would you give to future Smith students?
I would advise future Smith students to not be afraid to get involved in the community and challenge yourself with opportunities that comes your way. Although Smith can be overwhelming at first, focus on what makes you happy and how you will find your own special purpose at Maryland and I promise it will pay off.

What makes the Smith undergraduate program unique?
The people, are amazing and they push you to be your best and challenge you with new opportunities. Walking into Van Munching Hall on my first day of classes Freshman year, I was intimidated thinking everyone on the side couches were staring at me and I wondered if the long hallway would ever end. Over the course of a few weeks and months, the hallway was filled with familiar faces. The long hallway became an unknowing foundation for networking and the broadening of my involvement. Coming from out of state, Smith made Maryland smaller for me and I feel like it is a third home for me. When I look back, I know I will always remember the motivating atmosphere of Smith and the amazing people that are helping me become the best version of myself both professionally and socially.

What is your best memory from your time at Smith?
There are many memories and it's hard to write just about one. My best memories at Smith began Freshman year where I pushed myself to get involved with one goal in mind: to make my own mark here. Between SUSA, Phi Chi Theta and Women in Business, I was able to developed and expand my networking skills to a whole new level. My Freshman year helped me find my own purpose at Smith. The quintessential memory was rushing and pledging for Phi Chi Theta. I have met some of my closest friends and I know my potential will continue to increase as I begin my Sophomore year.

The endless support you constantly have. No matter what problem you're having, there is always someone who is willing to help you. Everyone challenges one another, pushing you to be your best, but always lending a helping hand. It makes such a big school feel smaller, providing a sense of comfort that's hard to come by, especially in such an outstanding business program.

What is your best memory from your time at Smith?
My first Business Statistics class. I heard a great lecture that emphasized the value of showing up and working hard and it inspired me to always be present and put forth my best effort. Some of the most impactful things I learned the rest of the semester weren't about statistics, but the context and importance of what I was doing.

Entering the Smith Business School can be overwhelming. There are so many opportunities here, sometimes it will feel like you have to do absolutely everything. Not only does Smith have some of the greatest business professors in the nation, it offers so many resources for you to further yourself. The school and the faculty go the extra length to host initiatives and programs to ensure you have all the skills you need as you transition into your professional career. I thought coming into this school meant I would only be taking classes to learn the technical skills I would need in a career but Smith really tries to make sure you have the knowledge you need to present the best version of yourself.

What advice would you give to future Smith students?
At Smith, nothing will be handed to you. Rather, the school offers you the tools of education, experience, resources, and opportunities all for you to take advantage of. However, what separates the best from the rest is how you take advantage of those tools, and how you chose to apply them to your career and life aspirations. While it may be intimidating at first, everyone is inevitably in the same boat. Put yourself out there, push the limits of your comfort zone, and become the person you aspire to be.

What makes the Smith undergraduate program unique?
Simply put, the community is what makes Smith so special. Maryland is undeniably a large school, which can be overwhelming for some. However, the Smith School is truly a community, one comprised of like-minded individuals, working together to reach similar goals. Smith does not feel like a competitive environment in which all your peers are your rivals. Rather, Smith is a collaborative space in which everyone wants to succeed. Your friends and classmates want you to succeed, as you will grow to feel the same about them.

What is your best memory from your time at Smith?
In the second semester of my Sophomore year, I had the opportunity to go on a trip, with 30 other Smith students and Dr. Kass, to Charlottesville, Virginia. On this trip, we met Ted Weschler, who is just one of two portfolio managers working under Warren Buffett at Berkshire Hathaway. On this once in a lifetime trip, Weschler treated us to lunch, and spent 1.5 hours answering all of our questions. It was truly a unique learning experience that I wouldn't have gotten to have anywhere else.

What advice would you give to future Smith students?
My advice would be to build a support system around yourself from day one. Ensure that you have a good group of friends, alumni, and professors who have your best interests at heart, and make sure to hold onto them throughout your Smith journey. So much of what I've been able to accomplish at Smith was a direct result of that support system around me, so make sure to build meaningful relationships early and often.

My best memory from my time at Smith is from the spring semester of my freshman year. When I first walked around the school months earlier, I noticed that there were students that knew almost every person that they walked by. At the time I admired these students very much and hoped to be like them at some point. In the spring, I was walking through the hall one day and I realized that I knew almost every person that I walked past and in that moment I felt like I had made my place in the Smith community and I will remember that feeling forever!
