Is the application online, and is there an application fee?
Yes, the entire application process is online and the application is $75.
Do I need to submit an essay?
Yes, the written essay should articulate your qualifications and motivation for pursuing advanced education.
What is the video response?
The purpose of the video response is to assess your business communication skills and is a way for the admissions committee to get to know you in addition to your written essay. A link to the video with instructions and details are available once you select your program of interest. You do not need special software, just a computer or device that has a camera/webcam to create your video response.
Do I have to take the GMAT or GRE?
Yes! For Fall 2018 applicants, either the Graduate Record Examination® (GRE®) or the Graduate Management Admissions Test® (GMAT®) is required.
Do I need to submit a transcript(s) for each college or university attended?
Yes, the online application allows you to upload a scanned official transcript(s) for each college or university attended. If the official transcript where you received your degree does not state the degree was conferred, please also upload an official diploma or official copy of your degree received (most schools already list the conferred degree on the transcript). If you are formally admitted to the University of Maryland, you will be required to submit an official transcript at new student orientation. If your transcript is not in English, please also an official transcript translated into English.
Who should provide my letter of recommendation?
A supervisor within your organization or a professor from your undergraduate institution familiar with your work.
What is the deadline for application?

If I applied last year and was not accepted, how do I reapply?
If you choose to reapply, you must submit a new application package which includes: application, application fee, transcripts, resume, and essay. Recommendation letter previously submitted electronically with the online application do not need to be resubmitted. If you previously submitted your official test scores (GMAT, TOEFL, etc) to the University of Maryland, you do not need to resubmit these items with your reapplication.

Is financial aid available?
All applicants to the MS in Accounting are automatically considered for scholarships and graduate assistantships when the Admissions Committee evaluates the application for admission. US citizens and permanent residents are encouraged to apply for additional financial aid in the form of loans. What exactly defines an "international applicant"?
The University of Maryland at College Park defines an international applicant as any applicant who is not a US citizen or permanent resident.
I have a three-year bachelor's degree from outside the United States. Am I eligible to apply?
Yes. Candidates with a three-year bachelor's degree from outside the United States may apply.
Am I required to take the TOEFL or IELTS?
International applicants who have received an undergraduate or graduate degree from one of the countries listed here are waived of this requirement. You must have attended classes for at least 2 years and received the degree in one of these countries to be exempt from the TOEFL/IELTS requirement. If you earned your degree from a country not on the exemption list, then you must complete the TOEFL or IELTS. The minimum score required on the TOEFL is 100, and 7 on the IELTS.

How is Smith's MS in Accounting Program different from other accounting programs?
Smith's accounting program produces well-rounded accounting professionals who have highly-developed leadership, teamwork, negotiating, and communications skills. The Smith Master of Science in Accounting program was designed by Smith faculty in consultation with a number of public accounting firms to provide the skills needed by accounting professionals in today's challenging legal and regulatory business environment.
What are the key accounting areas covered in the program?
Smith's curriculum is relevant and practical from day one. The program, depending on the track selected and enrollment, focuses on such key issues such as compliance and financial reporting; internal audit application and practice; current trends in corporate governance; the role of managerial accounting in overall management planning and control structure; fraud prevention, deterrence, detection, and control; taxation; and IT security, controls and auditing.
Is there spring admissions?
No, the MS in Accounting program only admits new students for the fall semester.
Is this an accredited degree I'll receive?
Yes. The Smith School of Business is accredited by the AACSB (Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business) and your diploma will read Master of Science in Accounting.
Are the program professors Smith School faculty?
Yes, the program is taught by many of the same world-class faculty who teach in Smith's top-ranked MBA programs, along with industry practitioners.
What kind of access will I have to professors?
All professors will be available to meet during office hours and for scheduled appointments. They will also be available via email and phone.
How much of the program is done online?
None of the course work is done online. All teaching happens in the classroom. Groups, however, may choose to work virtually between classes. Virtual team interaction and group collaboration are facilitated through an online course management tool.
Are transfer credits accepted?
Transfer credits are not accepted into the MS in Accounting program.
Are there electives?
Yes, the number of credits of electives depends on which track students choose. The tracks are, subject to enrollment, internal auditing, public accounting, financial accounting or taxation.
