Why did you choose to attend the Smith School of Business?
I chose to study Business Analytics at the Smith School of Business for two reasons. First, I love statistics, therefore I am passionate about what I am learning now. I spent the past two years at the University of Maryland studying Resource Economics & Statistics in my undergrad. Thus, a major combining data analytics with real-world problems is what I was looking for. Second, I love our surrounding communities. I spent the past two years volunteering in different communities, exploring multicultural activities, and dancing with my favorite Ballroom Dance team. I feel so involved in this community and do not want to leave.
In your opinion, what makes your Smith MS program unique?
The MS program is Business Analytics is a new program beginning this year, and I am lucky to be one of the new students in our program. This program was created at the right time in response to the increasing need for interdisciplinary data analysts to help with making better business decisions. We have classmates from different academic and cultural backgrounds, which provide us a great platform to develop our ideas and enhance our communication skills. Our well-designed class structure also helps us to effectively fulfill our academic and career goals.
What advice would you give to a future candidate?
First, be prepared that life as a Master’s student is busy, therefore, allocate your time efficiently and learn how to balance your academic schedule with workshops and company events. This will keep you on the right track. Second, find a hobby to balance your daily work, and meet people who share the same passion as you.
