Why did you choose to attend the Smith School of Business?
I knew right from the time I was applying for Business Analytics courses that Robert H. Smith School of Business was my dream choice. Not only its reputation, but also the faculty and world-class resources put together made the Smith School the best choice for this degree. Located near the DC metropolitan area, Smith has maintained ties with many local and global employers. Having worked on data-warehousing and data visualization projects for 2 years before Smith, I felt that this experience at Smith will help me realize my future goal in Strategy Insights Management and Forecasting.

In your opinion, what makes your Smith MS program unique?
In today’s data-driven world, I think having a Master’s degree in Business Analytics makes your game stronger than many others. So far, we have started off with subjects like decision analytics and data models, in which approaches to business situations are discussed and comprehensive statistical models are built around them. What I enjoy about the course structure is that it has the right mix of technical and business subjects, coupled with many implementation project opportunities. This way, you can get a good exposure to real-world problems and understand the decision-making process. Apart from the strong academic structure, Smith’s collaborative classroom environment and the examination pattern will ensure that you develop the right synergy and grow as an individual.

What advice would you give to a future applicant?
As an international student, I didn’t want anything to get in my way, and I submitted the admissions application much before time. And once you’re here, network as much as you can! Join clubs, lead student organizations, initiate classroom discussions – don’t be stuck in your comfort zone. Given that Business Analytics is the next big thing, this course from Smith has the best ingredients for an all-around development. To gain deeper insights, you can speak to seniors/alumni not just from your program but outside to know how they are facing their challenges. Every experience counts!
