Why did you choose to attend the Smith School of Business?
The Smith School’s prestige and location are important factors that attracted me to attend the Smith School of Business. However, the determining factor that led to my final decision was the care that Smith provided. Before I was admitted, I received Happy Chinese New Year greetings from Smith. I had applied to five graduate schools and received three offers, but Smith is the only one that sent me greetings. I even received a Happy Birthday postcard from Smith before I ultimately decided to come. These actions were simple but very meaningful, especially at a time when people care less about each other. These greetings gave me the impression that the Smith School of Business cares about each student and respects cultural diversity.
In your opinion, what makes your Smith MS program unique?
First of all, the MS in Business Analytics is a new program at Smith. This gives students opportunities to shape and build characteristics for the program. The MS in Business Analytics also stands out because it is problem-solving oriented and closely related to real life cases. By figuring out solutions to these cases, I am able to deepen my professional knowledge and gain insights about how business works in actual practice.
What advice would you give to a future applicant?
Think about what you really want to do before you finally determine which school to attend. Instead of merely focusing on rankings, you need to explore yourself more and try to find the program that is the best fit for you. Also, do not be shy to reach out for help. Try to build up connections with previous students, professors and faculty to get the whole picture about the program and school you would like to attend.
