Why did you choose to attend the Smith School of Business?
The Masters in Finance (MFin) program at the Robert H. Smith School of Business is a very desirable and competitive program to get accepted into. My application to the program was accepted with an offer of a graduate assistantship that gave me a valuable opportunity to also work part-time in the Finance Department at the university. This convinced me that attending the MFin program at the Smith School of Business was the right decision for me.
In your opinion, what makes your Smith MS program unique?
The MFin program at the Smith School of Business has four concentrations to offer: Corporate Finance, Asset Management, Risk Management and General Finance. This unique feature helps students to choose their career focus at the start of the program.
Personally, I found it helpful to make this decision early in the program. Then, one can be more mindful of the smaller decisions that need to be made during the semester to better utilize time at the Smith School of Business (decisions such as choosing to attend the most relevant networking events or applying early for the internships that better align with one’s career goals).
What advice would you give to a future applicant?
Diversity is truly celebrated here at the Smith School of Business. I encourage prospective students of all backgrounds to consider applying to Smith and become a part of a truly global environment. I strongly believe that learning is enhanced when it is coupled with a global mindset and a global environment.
