During the final week of the executive MBA program at Smith, students participate in a business simulation capstone. Students call it the best, the hardest, and the most rewarding part of the entire Smith EMBA experience. It puts all of their knowledge to the test in a highly competitive five-day team-based business game.
Vice Dean Joyce Russell, who is a professor and executive coach in the EMBA program, has been leading the simulation for all EMBA cohorts since 2003.
“The Marketplace Game was developed by Dr. Ernest R. Cadotte, Innovative Learning Solutions, and has been consistently innovated throughout the years,” says Russell. “It has been used in executive programs and MBA programs throughout the world. Essentially, it is a Business War Game that is a strategy exercise with tactical detail. Students are placed into a very realistic business setting where they will run a company for two years in compressed time.”
The mystery of the project adds to the excitement. So, we will keep the details at a minimum. But this video will give you a sneak peek into the game.
