Best-in-Class Career Development Resources

Below is a list of the technology tools available to you as a Smith student. Many of the career resources listed in this section are paid for by Smith or by UMD, and are free for you as a student, so it is important to use the links we provide to access the Smith/UMD version.

HireSmith (Powered by 12Twenty)

HireSmith is the OCS system of record for recruiting activity. It anchors the technology suite and is a full-service resource for employers, Smith students and alumni.

  • Smith students and alumni conduct job searches
  • Students sign up for on-campus recruiting events
  • Review lists of employers, and identify "targets"
  • Employers manage on-campus recruiting events
  • Employers post jobs and search for ideal candidates

HireSmith is also the OCS system of record for employment outcomes data. These HireSmith features are designed by MBAs for MBAs for secure sharing, so that students can transparently view anonymized year-over- year data. These web-based salary research tools will make salary negotiation more productive and efficient.

  • Within the Interviews tab of your profile, you can share specific details about each interview, to include questions, formats and insights. Similar to internet sites like Glassdoor, such strategic “insider information” can then be used by Smith peers to get an inside look at companies and see actual interview questions as they prepare for interviews. When preparing for an interview, you can use the Interview Database (under Research Tools) to view data about interviews past students have experienced.
  • Within the Research Tools menu, you will conduct research on employment outcomes of our alumni. This includes salary, offer timing and trends, searchable by industry, function, employer, and location.
  • Within the Outcomes tab of your profile, you will enter your employment data for submission to the MBA CSEA (MBA Career Services & Employer Alliance) – which is important for school rankings and research by future Smith MBA students.

HireSmith is your “one-stop shop” for career services resources – including events, guidelines, and reference.

  • Sign up for workshops, mock interviews, and other events via the Events menu
  • Sign up for coaching appointments via the Appointments menu
  • Manage your tasks (optional) via the Tasks menu
  • Access a soft copy of this guide and many other resources (including videos, resume and cover letter guides, etc.) via the Resource Library menu

Links to the resources below – and many others – are also available via your HireSmith resource library, so the only link you need to remember is HireSmith.net!
