Supply chain experts at the University of Maryland’s Robert H. Smith School of Business have spurred the implementation of a new system that will accelerate trade and save U.S. businesses money and time. Soon, the current paper-based system required by the U.S. government to import or export cargo will give way to the new “single window,” electronic data collection process, dubbed the International Trade Data System. It becomes mandatory in February 2016.
Drawn from a variety of backgrounds, each MSEC student has the opportunity to apply what they’ve learned in the classroom to understand, educate and develop solutions to social problems in their host countries. Each student begins the nine-credit program with classes in the spring, learning the key skills and context for their travels and work ahead. After that, they’re off to spend two months abroad over the summer on their projects, working closely with each other and the local communities.
