This year marks the 25th anniversary of the William D. Bradford Awards Reception – a celebration of the former dean and finance professor and his commitment to creating a diverse and inclusive community at the University of Maryland's Robert H. Smith School of Business. The event will be held on Thursday, March 8, and will feature a conversation with Smith alumni Apoorva Gandhi '91, vice president of Multicultural Affairs at Marriott International Inc., and Catherine Sheehy, MBA 2006 and head of Advisory Solutions at UL Environment.

The theme of this year's Bradford Awards Reception is, "Stronger Together: A Celebration of Diversity and Inclusion." The program will be balanced with "networking neighborhoods," allowing participants opportunities for targeted conversations by industry and function. Corporate sponsors include: Citi, Air Products, AT&T, Marriott International, Inc., Cognizant, SiriusXM, and PepsiCo.

"This event is a wonderful opportunity for the Smith School to hear from industry leaders who can really demonstrate the need for and benefit of diversity and inclusion in the classroom and workplace," said Kecia Hansard, director of diversity initiatives at Smith. "It's also a great way for our Smith community to reconnect during the reception. It's an important part of the student experience to engage with so many industry leaders and alumni."

Bradford served as a professor of finance and dean at Smith from 1980-1994 and initiated the first awards banquet in 1994 in an effort to support under-represented members of the student body. During Bradford's tenure at Smith, he helped found the Black MBA and Hispanic MBA Associations. This year's host committee has expanded to include even more ideas and collaboration.

The event is hosted by the Black MBA Association, Latin MBA Student Association, Smith Association of Women MBAs, Smith Pride Alliance, Jewish MBA, Middle East and Muslim Business Students Association, International MBA Association, Smith Vets, and Net Impact.
