MS in Business Administration, Yonsei University

BA in Business Administration, Yonsei University

Sanghwa began the Smith Ph.D. program in Marketing in Fall 2019 and is expected to graduate in May 2024.

Sanghwa's primary research interest lies in the intersection of marketing and sustainability. In his job market paper, Sanghwa proposes that air pollution leads to an increase in consumer spending, primarily for hedonic consumption that helps mood regulation. He wields various causal inference techniques ranging from advanced econometric analysis to a controlled experiment to support his findings. He has additional projects focused on understanding how unsustainable environments and sustainable alternatives drive consumer demand, which appeals to broader audiences including managers, policymakers, consumers, and researchers. Sanghwa is also a winner of the INFORMS Society for Marketing Science (ISMS) Doctoral Dissertation Early-Stage Research Grant.

Sanghwa is also broadly interested in retail management and digital marketing, with a focus on marketing strategies that connect digital and physical interfaces to improve marketing outcomes. Within this research program, his paper appears in marketing discipline outlets including the Journal of Interactive Marketing.
