The 2019 Thought Leadership Conference will be held on Friday, March 29 at the Smith School of Business in Van Munching Hall. The conference will feature presentations by faculty, industry leaders, and student finalists from a data competition that will take place earlier the same week.  The conference agenda will be posted shortly.

Students participating in the Datathon will find this schedule below helpful. Be sure to register for the conference if you wish to attend.

Datathon/Case Competition: Teams work with mentors to analyze data, using Core Consulting Series skills, to deliver novel insight.

Thursday, March 28
5:00 p.m.

Teams submit presentation of analysis and results. Finalists will be selected by faculty and industry judges.

Friday, March 29
9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.                        

Thought Leadership Workshop (open to the public - registration required). Finalist teams present. Winner selected and prize awarded.

Data Distribution Shared and Overview of Challenge Presented by Deloitte

Deloitte will present data from Capital Bikeshare and DC Taxis. Students will have an opportunity to use their problem solving, analytics, and data visualization skills to analyze the impact of intermediate transportation trends within the DC Metro area as it relates to Capital Bikeshare and DC Taxis.

Sample variables within the data include: start/end location coordinates, trip duration, and total fare. 

Mentors (from industry and Smith faculty) will be assigned to assist teams during the Datathon competition week (3/25 - 3/28). 

First Round of Judging: No later than Thursday, March 28 at 5:00 p.m.
Each team will submit their presentation (5-7 pages) summarizing their methods and results. The final teams selected by faculty and industry judges will be notified Thursday evening. A submission location will be provided to each team.

The Smith Analytics Consortium Third Annual Thought Leadership Conference begins at 9:00 a.m. and ends at 5:00 p.m. This year’s conference will showcase faculty and industry speakers and panels. The Datathon finalists will present, and the winning team will be selected and awarded a Grand Prize.
