Dingman Jumpstart

A weekend bootcamp program for the Terp community to de-risk and jumpstart their startup ideas!

Statistics show that most startups fail -- but not because they lack good ideas, products or technology. Most startups fail because they lack enough of the right customers and a clear plan of action. Increase your venture’s chances of success and join Dingman Jumpstart, a program designed by the Dingman Center for Entrepreneurship to help University of Maryland alumni, faculty, staff and students launch or grow their businesses. Dingman Jumpstart is for anyone with an initial startup idea; founders looking for a scalable business model; and open-minded entrepreneurs who ready to take the leap in building their business.

The weekend program features a mix of workshops and lectures that focus on the following: customer segment and target markets; competitor analysis; customer acquisition strategies; and financial modeling. Participants will also receive one-on-one advising from the Dingman Center's Entrepreneurs in Residence. In the end, founders will have developed a clear elevator pitch as well as an investor pitch for their business. Following the weekend boot camp, entrepreneurs will have the opportunity to schedule advising sessions with Entrepreneurs in Residence

Program Fee:

  • $150 for members of the UMD Alumni Association Members, Students, Faculty and Staff
  • $250 for Alumni who are not members of the UMD Alumni Association 

*Scholarships are available. To be considered, please complete the scholarship application. Once you submit the application, the Center will get back to you regarding the amount to be awarded within five business days.

Inclement Weather Policy

In the case of inclement weather, we will follow university procedures and cancel if the university closes.  We have currently set Feb. 6-7 as our snow date.   Participants will be alerted to any changes to the Dingman Jumpstart schedule via email.
