Smith Analytics Consortium

The mission of the Smith Analytics Consortium is to inspire and facilitate innovation in analytics among students, faculty, and the larger business community by providing opportunities for networking, thought leadership, and collaboration. Additionally, the Smith Analytics Consortium aims to support the mission of the Smith School by providing the perspective of business leaders and organizing co-curricular activities to enhance the Smith experience for all students — both in and out of the classroom.

Center for Digital Innovation, Technology, and Strategy

The Center for Digital Innovation, Technology, and Strategy (DIGITS) serves to leverage intellectual capital across academia, industry, and government. The center focuses on the study of emerging digital technologies and the impacts of digital innovations on business functions, firm strategies, and policy across a number of industry verticals. The center’s mission is to disseminate scholarly research, to connect research with practice and policy, and to foster experiential learning for students.

Center for Complexity in Business

The Center for Complexity in Business at the Robert H. Smith School of Business is a world premier research center specializing in the application of complex systems methods to business problems. The term “complex systems” characterizes systems that consist of large numbers of components that exhibit non-linear interactions and whose behavior cannot be adequately understood or predicted by simple global models and parameters.

Health Insights Artificial Intelligence Lab

The Health Insights Artificial Intelligence Lab was founded in 2017 as a virtual innovation R&D hub staffed by University of Maryland Center for Health Information & Decision Systems-affiliated (“CHIDS”) faculty scientists and graduate students, who work in close collaboration with industry leaders, including Inovalon. Together they envision, create and grow impactful AI-based projects. The lab embraces speed, innovation and adaptability via an Agile R&D approach.

The lab provides a pipeline to the ideas and people across the University of Maryland network. CHIDS has extensive connections that can be leveraged for specific projects and aims, notably in schools for computer science, engineering, medicine, pharmacy, nursing, behavioral and social sciences, and public health. The University of Maryland is Maryland’s flagship university and one of world’s premier research institutes, and the Information Systems group in particular is ranked in the top 10 worldwide by BusinessWeek, as well as by U.S. News and World Report; access to these resources deliver substantial value. The lab includes an annual MBA Consulting Project, targeted towards a domain of interest for the Lab that integrates strategic, policy and technical components.
