Welcome from the Dean

Patricia Cleveland,
Associate Dean for Undergraduate Programs

Thank you for your interest in the Robert H. Smith School of Business at the University of Maryland, College Park. Our undergraduate program has been nationally recognized as one of the best of its kind. But what's more important, our students think it's great, too.

Smith School undergraduates are challenged and inspired by our world-class faculty, experts in traditional and cross-functional business areas including electronic commerce, marketing, finance, information technology, international business, organizational change, and logistics/supply chain management. Our students can choose from eight major areas of study, and may combine business courses with course work in other subjects to satisfy their intellectual curiosity and support their career goals.

Beyond the knowledge building that goes on in the classroom, Smith School students have exceptional opportunities to develop the practical skills necessary for success. They gain hands-on experience in technology tools that power business in our financial markets and supply chain laboratories. They serve on consulting teams working on real business problems with area organizations. They may pursue the dream of starting a business through participation in the university's business plan competition. Smith students also are constantly polishing their skills in leadership, team building, and management in our many undergraduate clubs and organizations.

Our students have helped us create a community that values collaboration, achievement, and friendship, an environment that not only challenges you to do your best but also provides the support and resources necessary to make it happen.

We hope that you'll visit us in Van Munching Hall and, if it feels right, apply for admission to our undergraduate program. We believe that the investment you make in yourself as a Smith student will pay off both personally and professionally in the years to come.

Cordially,

Patricia Cleveland
Associate Dean for Undergraduate Programs
