Accounting Teaching Scholars

The Accounting Teaching Scholars program provides undergraduate accounting students the opportunity to serve as discussion leaders and teaching assistants for the beginning accounting courses, BMGT 220 and 221. It is an opportunity for qualified accounting majors to enhance their undergraduate experience by reviewing financial/managerial material in preparation for the CPA exam, practicing organizational and delivery skills, and receiving monetary compensation without leaving campus. A one-credit mentoring course is offered to prepare students for their roles as teaching assistants.

Responsibilities

  • Teach two 50 minute discussion sections of the same course on Friday each semester.
  • Maintain 3 hours of office hours per week.
  • Grade 4 quizzes per semester for your discussion sections (quizzes provided by faculty)
  • Proctor 4-5 exams per semester.
  • Prepare for weekly class (assignments provided by faculty).

Remuneration

  • Position will be named by sponsor.
  • Pay rate is $10 per hour for 10 hours per week for 15 weeks of the semester for a total of $1,500 per semester.
  • One credit course in teaching methods (will require attending 4-6 meetings).
  • Position is for two semesters (fall and spring) and renewable with reapplication.

Applicant Requirements

  • Must be a declared accounting major..
  • BMGT 310, 311, and 321 must be completed by end of semester of application.
  • Minimum 3.00 cumulative GPA with a "B" or better in BMGT 310, 311, or 321.
  • Public Speaking course (COMM 100, 107 or 200) must be completed by end of semester of application.

Application & Selection Process

  • The application for the Fall 2009 cohort will reopen in Spring 2009.
  • You can work on your application in any order you choose; however, remember to download a cover letter into your UNet "Profile" (can be downloaded in the "Files" tab of your profile) so that it can later be uploaded into your application, and also update other "Profile" information that is part of the application.
  • You can save your application as a draft (before making a final submission). Your saved application is located in your "Profile" under "My Applications" in UNet. Please remember not to submit your application until you have finished entering all parts of your application . You will only be able to submit this application once and are then unable to return to make edits.
