BACK TO SUMMER 2011

Welcome to our summer edition newsletter. We have a few exciting changes at the Center for Social Value Creation. First, I would like to welcome our new Assistant Director, Guillermo Olivos. Guillermo joined us just 5 days before the Social Enterprise Symposium and jumped in with enthusiasm and patience as we hosted 550 students at Stamp Student Union. Guillermo is a MBA graduate of the Yale School of Management and worked as a social entrepreneur in New Orleans after Katrina. His bio can be found on our website and I hope you will meet him soon.

Second, we have moved into our new home in Van Munching Hall and are gearing up for an exciting year ahead. The expansion of our Grassroots.org Social Venture Consulting program is on track and we welcome five campus partners from Drexel University, George Mason University, Georgetown, Loyola University Chicago, and The University of Virginia. Together, we will provide pro-bono business consulting services to a growing number of non-profits and social enterprises around the country. We are also kicking off our second year of the Social Innovation Fellows program for Smith School juniors and seniors and expanding our international programs. As an example, read about our USAID partnership in Sri Lanka in this newsletter.

Third, I am excited to let you know that our faculty committee has designed an MBA curriculum that fully embraces an integrated approach to teaching the concepts of creating business value through the congruence of economic, social and environmental objectives. Each of our core courses will include components of social value creation and students will also choose from several CSVC experiential learning opportunities as part of the new selective course offerings. This integrated approach to learning is a critical component to achieving our vision for creating impactful business leaders of the future. In much the same way, we continue to work with firms to create break-through strategies for integrating social dimensions with their core competencies. Thus, we hope to achieve the nexus of maximum value creation.

Enjoy the rest of your summer and please stay in touch!

Warmest Regards,
Melissa Carrier
