Community & Diversity

In March 2013 at a Women Leading Women event, Kristen Welch ’90, MBA ’96 and senior vice president of global content operations at Discovery Communications, talked with Smith School Vice Dean Joyce E.A. Russell on many topics ranging from work-life balance to advice on how to achieve success in today's business climate.

The Robert H. Smith School of Business community is multifaceted at every level – students, staff and faculty represent the spectrum of diversity. With a large population of international students and a diverse blend of backgrounds, nationalities, ethnicities and experiences, Smith graduate students have an opportunity to make connections with those who share their interests, and to grow and learn by making new friends and sharing new experiences.

About a dozen Smith School and student clubs are focused on bringing members together who have similar interests in gender, nationality, religion, and sexual orientation. Many annual initiatives and dozens of events are hosted each year to educate the larger community on club-related issues. These popular events also raise money for charity, and bring together the larger Smith community.
