The Office of Smith IT manages networked printers in
every lab, office hallway and every office suite.
- MBA students receive 600 pages each semester
that may be used in any lab and the Grad Lounge.
- Faculty and Staff are assigned a printer
according to their office location. They may
also print to any of the VMH Network printers
listed.
- Students hired to work in an office are
given rights to those networked office printers
by request from the faculty or staff member.
The request may be emailed to
helpme@rhsmith.umd.edu
by the faculty or staff member.
Anyone without a Smith Novell account may use the campus
Pay for Print
system in our labs. Graduate Students have a
quota of 600 pages/semester. When that quota is exceeded
they must use the campus Pay for Print system (visit our
Pay4Print page).
Please be considerate of your peers. Reserve large print jobs
(50 pages or more) for less busy times. Discard
your unwanted pages in the appropriate recycling containers. Print jobs not picked up may be
picked up by mistake by others or cleared away at any time.
Installing a Network Printer
In order to add a network printer, you will need
to install the Novell client. All
computers that are provided by Smith IT will
automatically have Novell installed so adding a
printer is simple. Please visit our
Novell
Printing page on how to add a printer.
Novell client is only available for WIndows
2000/XP and can be found on our
Novell page.
If you have Vista or Mac OSX, you will need to use
iPrint. iPrint will allow you to print to
certain network printers (mainly the computer labs
in VHM), but it does not give you access to your
network drives.
iPrint
iPrint is a printing solution for those who can not install the Novell client
on their computers. Using iPrint
requires you to download the iPrint client and it will work on Windows XP,
Windows Vista, or Mac OSX. Click on the printer that you
want to add. It will detect to see if you have the iPrint client
installed. If you do not, it will download the iPrint client and you will
to complete the installation of the file (just click next until you see finish).
NOTE for Vista Users:
You must have SP1 installed in order to install
iPrint. If you do not know if you have SP1
installed or not, try installing the iPrint client.
If the installation fails, then you will need to
install SP1. Vista SP1 can be found at
Microsoft's Download Center.
