Novell Printing

All Smith faculty, staff, and student workers (TAs/GAs/Undergrads) have access to all network printers in the labs, office hallway, and office suite.  You must be logged into Novell in order to install or use these printers.  If you cannot determine the name of the printer you wish to use, contact the Helpdesk at x52269.

The following are the steps to install a Novell printer:

  1. Make sure you are logged into Novell.  If you are not sure, open My Computer and see if you see your network drives listed (such as your K drive).  If you do not see your network drives, go to Start Menu > All Programs > Novell > Novell Login.
  2. Go to Start Menu > Printer and Faxes  (this may be Start Menu > Settings > Printer Faxes).
  3. On the left side of the new window under Printer Tasks, click "Add Printer".
  4. Add Printer Wizard will come up and click Next to start.
  5. Choose Network Printer and click Next.
  6. Choose Browse for a printer and click Next.
  7. In the larger box, it will display "Searching for Printers".  Please wait for it to populate the list of printers that it finds. One of the items in the list will be NDPS Printers, double click this to expand the selection.
  8. Double click NDPS Controlled Access Printers.
  9. Double click fac.bmgt.UMCP.
  10. Locate the printer you want to add and double click it to install.
  11. A warning will appear saying that drivers are going to be installed on your system. Click Yes.

After a couple seconds, some files will be copied to your computer and a dialog will appear asking if you want to set this printer as your default printer. If you want to automatically have this printer chosen when you go to print something, choose Yes and click Next. If not, choose No then click Next.

When everything is complete, click Finish. There is no need to reboot. If you have any applications that print, you may need to restart them (i.e. Word, Acrobat, Excel, Lotus, etc.)
