Before you arrive
Upon acceptance into the MBA Program, student accounts are automatically
scheduled for creation via the lists provided to us by the Office of
Professional Programs and Services (PPS).
A large majority of part-time students already have email accounts
established with their employers, therefore by default, we provide an “@rhsmith.umd.edu”
email address but mail is actually forwarded to the email address of choice. For
example, John Smith can be reached at
jsmith2008@rhsmith.umd.edu,
however, email will be redirected to his forwarding email address:
jsmith@pwc.com. If you would prefer
NOT to have your Smith School email forwarded, you can request an e-mailbox
account by visiting the Online Forms
section of the Office of Smith IT website.
Your account information will be delivered to the Professional Programs and Services
representative for your facility (DC, Shady Grove or Baltimore).
Account Naming Convention for Students
As a current Smith School student, you are also our future Alumni, therefore,
you get to keep your Email Address for Life!! If your name
changes legally or your expected graduation year changes, you may request an
account name change by visiting the
Online Forms section.

NEW: Blackberry Orientation Documents
Here are the documents discussed in the Blackberry orientation session, the
Powerpoint Slides
and the PDF manual.
When you arrive
First Year MBA students typically attend an orientation program the week
before school starts. As part of that program, Smith IT provides an
orientation session.
When
you leave
Upon graduation, a student account will remain
active for one month. After one month, the
Help Desk will delete the user's account, including
all data he/she may still have on the network. This
data will not be backed up or maintained for future
access.
All Lotus Notes accounts will also be deleted one
month after departure from the University and will
be changed over to our "Email Address for Life"
program. This program removes the user's mailbox and
replaces it with a forwarding service, allowing the
user to continue receiving email sent to his/her R.H.
Smith email address but forwarding that mail to an
email address the student has supplied to us. Even
so, the graduating student must make sure that
he/she has retrieved all email from his/her mailbox
before one month passes, as his/her mailbox will be
deleted.
Instructions for copying your mail file
so you can read this mail if you have a local copy of the Notes email client on
your computer - you will not be able to receive or send any additional mail from
this copy, it is just an archive of what exists at the time you copy it.
For additional information on your Lotus Notes
Account, contact the Help Desk by email at
helpme@rhsmith.umd.edu or by calling x52269.
