Canvas to Replace Blackboard
Blackboard, the Learning Management System (LMS) first
piloted at the Smith School in 2001 and used campus-wide
since 2006, will be replaced by Canvas in Spring 2013.

"Getting Started" workshops
Because each workshop will be hands-on it will
be held in the 3515 computer lab and limited to 15
participants. If you have a TA, staff member or other
course builder helping with your course space, please share
this invitation with them and encourage them to come too.

other more specific topics will be provided in several modes
in the coming months, including webinars, face-face
workshops and recorded tutorials. These will be added to the
schedule at the link above.
Smith IT will also be offering walk-in office
hours to help with your quick questions on a first-come
first-served basis. Please stop by the Help Desk to see who
is on duty. Time will be limited, so if you think you will
need more than 15 minutes with one of us, please schedule an

Dates to remember
- January 1, 2013 -
Students will no longer be able to log into
Blackboard. Please advise your students to
download and save any material they wish to
keep before then. We will not be able to
retrieve anything they failed to back up.
- June 30, 2013 -
Blackboard server will be decommissioned.
Contents there will be available to Faculty
and Staff until this time.
