Need to Know:
Can a student use an existing Blackberry,
or purchase a different Blackberry device,
and have it connected to the Smith BES
Server?
-
Yes, all Blackberry devices will connect
to the BES Server with Enterprise
Activation as part of your service plan.
If another Blackberry device is purchased,
will the Business School reimburse the cost
of the other Blackberry device if the 7520
is turned in?
-
No, the Business School has purchased
the 7520’s for it’s students, but we are
working with Sprint on a device upgrade
path. As we get further information
Smith IT will keep you informed.
Sprint released the 8830 mid July 2007 to
the general public, at the time of it’s
release the 7520’s were already purchased as
the device to be used for our students.
If a student has a problem with
another Blackberry device that was
purchased, what kind of support can
be expected from the Business School
and Smith IT?
-
Not a lot of support will be
given when it is a personal
device. As the device would be
your personal device, with your
own contract with your provider,
and not owned by the Business
School, Smith IT would only be
able to verify that your account
is working on BES and
re-activate your account if
needed. We would not be able to
push updates to your device,
reload the OS (Operating System)
if it should fail or have an
issue, or get support through
our channels. So, Smith IT can
assist in troubleshooting the
problem on the device, but it
would be up to the student to go
to their provider to have the
device repaired and/or re-loaded
if needed.
