Accounts

The Smith School utilizes several different password-protected systems to provide services for students, faculty, and staff.   

File Storage and Email accounts are created for those hired in the business school only after Payroll has confirmed your status and provided Smith IT with vital information to enable these services. We cannot create accounts for anyone except upon receipt of this information, so please contact Payroll if you have not received your account when you arrive at the Robert H Smith School of Business via payroll@rhsmith.umd.edu. Faculty and staff accounts are active until the last day of employment. Make sure to copy or remove any important personal information as you will not have access to it after this date.

For graduate level students file storage and email accounts are automatically and you can login using your University Directory ID and password. Visit this page for more information on how to login to Smoogle. MBA/MS students keep their Smoogle accounts after graduation as explained here.

MBA and MS Students:
All Graduate MBA and MS students will receive an email account on our Smoogle platform that was introduced in the Summer of 2012. These Smoogle accounts are created automatically--you do not need to do anything to request one. Visit http://smoogle.rhsmith.umd.edu to learn more.

Undergraduate Students:
Undergraduate students do not receive an email account unless they hold a student worker position at Smith.

Everyone with a Smith school email account on Smoogle can access it from http://smoogle.rhsmith.umd.edu. You can also find instructions on configuring your Smartphone or email client to work with your Smoogle account.

This account allows users to login to the Smith School Network, which includes any computer located in the classrooms, conference rooms or computer labs and access to network printing. Each user receives network space (designated as K:) for storing school related documents.  Quotas are determined by your role in the Business School.  This network space is a privilege and should not be abused. Inappropriate material will be deleted without notice or consideration.

This account is also used for printing. You must be logged in in order to print to any of the network printers in VMH.  For more information about printing, please visit our Printing page.

Faculty and Staff can connect to the campus VPN from off campus by using these instructions.

Each person connected with the University of Maryland in any way is listed in the University Directory without having to apply for an "account" in the usual sense.  Anyone listed in the directory can set up a new username and password at OIT's website.  Your University Directory ID will be used for most campus systems.  It is also used for the following systems unique to Smith.

Important Information! Please review the UM Directory Password Information and the Password Policy for R.H. Smith and UM Directory accounts. These password policies apply to all the accounts listed below. 

To change your passwords for your University Directory ID/Active Directory account (the one you use to log into campus systems such as Blackboard, Testudo, smithapps and wireless)  and Lotus Notes/iNotes (if you have an email@rhsmith.umd.edu address) please visit our Passwords information page.

Every email account holder has a BMGT profile document, whether currently enrolled or an alumni - and every employee and student of umd.edu has a campus directory profile.  These profiles should include your most up-to-date contact information. Information will be used as a reference, not only for forwarding emails to you, but also to capture other pertinent statistics for the School such as degree program and concentration, current employment information, etc.  (Your Blackboard email is sent to the address set in your UMID profile.) You can choose to make information such as home address or work information "Public" or "Private."
