The Office of Smith IT Help Desk is your gateway to computing and other information technology services offered by the Robert H. Smith School of Business Contacting the Help Desk first is the best way to ensure that your call reaches the appropriate person.  Often, there are several people who can resolve any problem, but directly contacting an individual may mean a longer wait time due to other responsibilities, illness or vacation.  To help you better understand who to call for help and when, we have listed these guidelines:

Normal Operating Hours

The Smith IT Suite is located in 3520 VMH
Normal Office Hours are Mon-Fri 9am-5pm

After Hours Support

The Office of Smith IT Suite closes at 5pm however, Extended User Support Phone Services are available until 10pm, Mon-Thu

Classroom Support in VMH

Please use the Call for Assistance button on the touch panels.  Support is available whenever classes are in session Mon-Thu, 7:00am -10:00pm and Fri, 7:00am - 6:00pm.  AV support staff is located in Master Control, Room 1530A, AFTER normal Help Desk hours please call 301-405-5213.

DTOs- Discipline-specific technology needs

Academic Departments each have a technology officer who can assist with discipline specific applications and technology needs.  Their focus is on technology needs unique to that department or outside the scope of central Smith IT.   Routine desktop support calls should continue to be directed to the Helpdesk.

Network or server outage AFTER normal operating hours, weekends, and holidays 

The Office of Smith IT has a 24x7 Enterprise Infrastructure Emergency Response Team.   We have deployed pro-active monitoring tools for the Smith School network infrastructure that continuously monitor system availability and network performance.  Our on-call response team is immediately alerted to system failures of network services, devices, and critical business applications.  In most cases, problems are identified and fixed without major impact to our customers.  While we generally know about system outages before our customers do, customers should still report suspected outages by calling 301-405-2269 or emailing us at helpme@rhsmith.umd.edu.

Special Events, Video Teleconference (VTC) or Audio Teleconference (ATC)

To request AV support services, please fill out the Audio Visual Request, and we will contact you to verify your needs.  While our primary role is to provide classroom support, we cannot guarantee support for AV requests given less than 24 hours notice. 

Any support needed outside of regular business hours, or that create greater demands than usual on our support team during normal business hours will be subject to a fee to be set by Audio Visual Services Management.  View information about our Rates and Services or find other University Facilities Providing Videoconferencing Services.
