Academic Technology @ Smith IT
Smith IT provides supports for many academic technology
services for students, faculty and staff. The main support
areas are:
January 1, 2013 campus is moving away from using
Blackboard and adopting
Canvas by Instructure.
For Fall 2012, only a handful of courses will be piloted in Canvas. Everyone
else will continue to use Blackboard. Go to our
Blackboard web pages for links to documentation and other news and
information. Any questions can continue to be sent to our BB support team at

SmithApps
(used to be MySmith in the MyUM portal)
Access the software applications our faculty have
requested for Business School classes from virtually
anywhere with internet access. If you have file space on
Smith network drives K: and/or O: you may access files there
from SmithApps as well. Log in with your Directory login
account.

Webinar?
Campus has made Adobe Connect, a web conferencing tool,
available to all Faculty and Staff. They are in the
process of integrating it into Canvas for student use as
well. See

If you or your participants need tech support in addition to documentation at
the site mentioned above, please tell them they can call 1-800-422-3623.

training and email contact info.
If you need help with the cameras and mics in VMH classrooms,
please fill out an
AV Request form 24 hours in advance of your webinar.
Many of our faculty use them regularly for polling,
quizzing, or engaging students. The Office of Smith IT can
help Business School faculty get started if they're
interested in using this technology for an entire semester
or just a class or two.

Getting Started with
LinkedIn
Some classes are choosing to use LinkedIn groups. To create a LinkedIn
account, go to
www.linkedin.com, click on the "Join Now" button, and follow the steps to
create an account.
