Mike Corvino ’82 never made it home for
his wife’s birthdays. He was always traveling for business. But he made a point
to always surprise her with something wonderful even when he was away, like
arranging a special birthday menu at her favorite restaurant.
So it was very appropriate, said Joyce Corvino, that it was on her birthday,
April 3, 2008, that the Smith School dedicated a classroom to Corvino in memory
of his generous support of the Smith School and its students. The dedication
ceremony was attended by many members of Corvino’s immediate and extended
family, including Joyce; daughters Alexandra and Elizabeth; father Joseph; and
friends and family members.
Corvino, who was killed in a car accident in September 2007, was an active
member of the school’s Board of Visitors. Students found in him a wonderful,
warm and engaging resource for questions about everything from sports to future
careers. The Smith School is proud to honor his memory with the Corvino
classroom.
