Social Enterprise Symposium: A New Way of Doing
Business
5 – 9 p.m. Thursday, March 26
Frank Auditorium, 1524 Van Munching Hall
On March 26, 2009, the University of Maryland’s Robert H. Smith School of
Business and the Initiative for Social Value Creation hosted our first
Social Enterprise Symposium, a student-run program designed to introduce new
approaches for making impactful, lasting social change around the world
using market-based approaches. Private, public and nonprofit practitioners
are crossing traditional barriers to enable social and environmental change.
Attendees selected from multiple plenary sessions that range from topics in
clean/green technology to socially responsible investing. Sessions are
workshop-based so students will learn how to put principles and practices
into action. A reception and career/opportunity fair followed the workshops.
The Ashoka
Changemaker Campus Team – also known as Terp Changemakers – led the
planning efforts for the Social Enterprise Symposium. Through this event and
the “Transform Your World Film Festival” on May 8, we are setting the wheels
in motion to make the University of Maryland an incubator of changemakers
with innovative ideas for improving society.
Event summaries can be found on the agenda page.
