The 2007 Brumberger QUEST Innovation and Consulting Conference, A Night to Remember!

Brumberger QUEST Innovation and Consulting ConferenceOn December 6, 2007, more than 250 people came together to support QUEST students as many delivered their final QUEST presentations. The audience, including QUEST students and alumni, QUEST partners, UMCP Faculty and Staff, family members and friends, were present for storyboard displays, 16 student presentations, the QUEST Project of the Year Award presentation and witnessed QUEST history when Executive Director, Dr. J. Gerald Suarez shared that QUEST Alum, Matthew Brumberger, had made a contribution to the program that would support the conference, QUEST extracurricular programming (Integrating QUEST events) and the QUEST Student Organization (QSO) for years to come.

The conference, now named for Brumberger, is truly a forum for joining in the celebration of QUEST student achievement. Student teams participating in QUEST's Total Quality Practicum, known to alumni as 490H, delivered value to QUEST Partners who had contracted the teams to scope and provide recommendations to real-time organizational challenges. Two additional student teams, one from QUEST's introductory class, Quality and Design, and another from a team currently enrolled in QUEST's Systems Thinking for Managerial Decision Making, brought innovative and relevant ideas to the table.

The QUEST-Anacostia Watershed Society team was awarded the 2007 QUEST Project of the Year Award which goes to a team that exhibits excellence in meeting customer needs and honoring expectations; working synergistically to deliver effective recommendations, application of total quality tools and principles, and level of professionalism in working with the client, project advisor and QUEST program as a whole. The team recommended an innovative solution for storm water management at the University of Maryland, developing a concept for a fountain design that will filter, recycle and then release water back into the surrounding grounds slowly following an influx of water from a storm.
