“Smith is an incredible platform from which to launch a business career.”

Why did you choose to attend the Smith School of Business?

Two reasons: personal preference and academic strength. From an academic perspective, Smith is a top-ranked business school globally, and one of the top business schools in the Washington, DC area. This is an incredible platform from which to launch a business career. On a personal level, I grew up in the DC area and wanted to remain here after graduating.  It is important in some industries to reinforce your professional network in the region in which you’d like to build your career.

In your opinion, what makes the Smith MBA program unique?

The people. Those who were chosen to join the Smith community are business-minded, motivated, ambitious, and all the other characteristics you’d look for in a great candidate. But unlike many other top-ranked business schools, the students at Smith are more humble, down to earth, and genuine. There’s an atmosphere of mutual respect and collaboration; no attitude.

What advice would you give to future Smith MBA candidates?

After completing orientation your life will have drastically changed. Be prepared. You may not have the time to do so afterward! Complete your pre-skills courses early, work on finishing your resume and cover letter with your career coach before orientation, and make sure you’re ready to meet 100 new and amazing students and potential friends. You’ll start socializing and networking quickly, not only with these people, but with potential employers.
