BUMO 778B – 3 Credits
The technology commercialization course on sourcing technologies is designed to teach students to communicate with bench scientists, understand the way in which scientists approach and think about the commercialization process, and understand how technologies might fit into economic value chains. The course also exposes students to the technology transfer system at the University of Maryland.
The course focuses on four themes:
1. The source, discovery, and evaluation of technological opportunities
2. Intellectual property for new technologies
3. The role of the inventor in commercializing technologies
4. Understanding the interactions between University of Maryland inventors and the technology commercialization office.
Students will work with the Dingman Center for Entrepreneurship, MTECH, the Office of Technology Commercialization, Dingman Entrepreneurs in Residence and Technology Commercialization Fellows and will identify and source technologies that will be used in the BUMO 778A Technology Commercialization I course.
